CSL CS:GO 2018/2019 Season - Team Registration is Now Open!

Thursday, September 13th, 2018

We're back with another year of CS:GO. Last year was fantastic and we hope to build on our success and create an awesome experience for the players. We spent the summer talking to players and coordinators alike, collecting valuable feedback, and preparing for the new year. As such, we're making a few changes to our format that we hope players will enjoy.

IMPORTANT CHANGES

  1. "The fall semester games are meaningless because they don't impact playoff seeding." We wanted to address this concern and make sure that there is an incentive to perform at the highest level in the Fall Semester! To do this, we're doing two things: (1) top finishers from the first half of the season will advance directly to the winner bracket of the playoffs; (2) we'll host a special invitational tournament for the top teams, played during the second half of the season, with a bonus prize pool.
  2. We're also making the playoff bracket double elimination. This way we can better ensure that the best teams make the finals. This also will help rectify possible seeding issues, and gives teams two chances in the playoffs.
  3. Better match reporting! We're working with CEVO again and through our partnership we will be automating the match reporting process to directly feed results to the CSL website. This solves a big complaint last year we had from coordinators who had to manually input results on CSL despite games being automated through CEVO. Huge shoutouts to CEVO for their help with our dev team on this issue!
  4. Player Movement: we've added a few new rules regarding player movement to provide some teams with a bit more roster flexibility.

SEASON DETAILS
VARSITY LEAGUE
Our Varsity League allows one premiere team from each school to compete. The prize pool is $30,000, distributed to the top 16 teams in the league. The top teams at the end of the season will earn an expenses paid trip to the CSL Finals! The entry fee for Varsity is $100 per team. The number of teams in the playoffs and the number of teams that will advance directly to the playoffs from the first half are TBD based on the total number of teams that participate. Finally, there will be an additional $1,000 prize for the Winter Invitational that the top performers in the first half qualify for!

As soon as registration ends, we will make sure to update the rules to reflect the final numbers!

  • Registration Open Date: September 1
  • Registration Close Date: October 6
  • League begins: October 13
  • Entry fee: $100 per team

JUNIOR VARSITY LEAGUE
Our Junior Varsity League allows multiple teams from each school to compete. We provide product prizing for our JV league: the 1st place team will receive 5 Keyboards and the 2nd place team will receive 5 Headsets. The entry fee for Varsity is $25 per team. The number of teams in the playoffs and the number of teams that will advance directly to the playoffs from the first half are TBD based on the total number of teams that participate. As soon as registration ends, we will make sure to update the rules to reflect the final numbers! The Winter Invitational winner will receive 5 Mice, while the 2nd place finisher will receive 5 Mousepads.

  • Registration Open Date: September 1
  • Registration Close Date: October 6
  • League begins: October 13
  • Entry fee: $25 per team

WINTER INVITATIONAL EXPLAINED
The top teams from our Varsity and Junior Varsity leagues will earn automatic top seeded spots in the winner bracket of the playoffs after the conclusion of the first half games (Week 7 in the regular season). In addition to earning top seeds in the playoff brackets, the teams will be placed into the Winter Invitational bracket. This tournament will be played early in the Spring semester and provide additional prizing! This allows us to incentivize play for the first half of the season while providing more opportunities for teams to make the playoffs, as well as giving out some extra loot along the way.

NOTES FOR NEW TEAMS/PLAYERS/ORGANIZATIONS
If you're returning to CSL again, read this over as a refresher. Alternatively, if you are new to CSL as a player, coordinator, coach, or faculty, these are helpful bits of information for you. For complete details, please read the rules page linked below as well! For any additional questions, you can reach us at csgo@cstarleague.com!

  • Who can play? Full-time college students in good academic standing.
  • How do we sign up? If you are not a returning player/team, there's a simple 4 step process to set up a new account and team:
  1. Register an account & verify your university email address
  2. You'll be directed to your university page where you can click the "Create Team" button
  3. When registration opens September 1, you will see an enrollment button on your team page. Click the button and your team is ready to set up on the CEVO event page
  4. After registering your team and adding your roster members on the CSL site, you can then proceed to setup your team on our CEVO event page, which will also link your two teams together so that reporting can be automated. Follow the guidelines below to setup your team properly:
  • After enrolling your CSL team in one of the divisions and adding all your team members, proceed to the CEVO event page to setup on CEVO
  • Coordinators should follow the instructions to create a team (make sure it is identical to your CSL team), and have your members join the CEVO roster
  • Download the CEVO client; matches will be played through this client
  • If you get an error when creating your team or when a member tries to join the roster, then you did not pass the automated verification check; see the checklist at the end of this post for the requirements
  • How many players on a team? Unlimited! Your team can have as many players as you want, and any player on the roster is eligible to play in any match; though participants are restricted to one CS:GO team. New players can join a roster all the way until the playoffs starts.
  • Where do I go if I have issues? The following are the steps you should take to answer any questions/issues you have:
    • Read the rules! Most likely, your question is answered in the rules directly
    • If your question is not answered in the rules, you can email us at csgo@cstarleague.com
    • Finally, once the season begins, we'll be doing live help/QA sessions weekly via DISCORD
  • CEVO-CSL Verification Checklist - If your team does not meet the exact requirements, our automated verification system will block your roster create/join attempt!
    • Team must be enrolled in exactly one of the divisions of the current CSL season registration
    • Team name on BOTH sites must be identical
    • All Players' steamID's on BOTH sites must be identical; make sure everyone on your team has identical info on BOTH sites
    • All Players must only appear on ONE enrolled CSL CS:GO roster; players should leave any extra rosters. Each team will also need a unique coordinator
